We Gone Be All Write

Starting Monday July 20th - Friday July 16th M-F 10:30am - 2:30pm. Lunch and snack provided. This summer the CFYD is offering a 4-week intensive, holistic, and practical approach to furthering the goals of academic achievement, vocational direction, and personal-social development of adolescent youth. Utilizing a “think outside the box” pedagogy, we aim to encourage participants to become aware of their own innate greatness as well as fostering a sense of self-love and self-esteem. Additionally, nurturing his or her efforts to become a more self-directed, fully functioning, and productive individual is of the utmost importance to us.

The CFYD utilizes a film, television, Power Point, musical, and print media based curriculum focusing on improved writing development, critcal thinking, media analysis, and written/creative expression. Daily topics will center around SOLUTION BASED ideas pertaining to WORLD affairs as well as the issues facing our young people on a daily basis such as self-esteem, anti-violence, and healthy interpersonal relationships. Particiants will express their OWN views via short plays, poetry/spoken word, short stories and essays. There will also be a “virtual classroom” component in which participants will be provided with real world and online materials/resources to further their studies long after summer program is over.

Participants will also be counseled on long range academic planning/organizing for high school, the college application process, as well as career mapping.
